Port Elizebeth - Two Chinese men and a farmer appeared in the Kenton-On-Sea Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of illegal possession of perlemoen (abalone), Eastern Cape police said.

Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula said Dong Hau Liang, 35, and Huihong Liang, 30, were not granted bail.

They were found in a farmhouse near Alexandria last Thursday allegedly with 1630kg of perlemoen with an estimated street value of R33 million.

Jacobus Marthinus van der Mescht, 66, the owner of the farm, who was also arrested, was released on R20 000 bail.

The case was postponed to August 27.
