Johannesburg - A whirlwind trip to Pretoria to be announced as one of the top matriculants in the country turned into a nightmare for Rustenburg Girls’ High’s Rebecca Haines on Tuesday.

She and her parents were hijacked at gunpoint shortly after arriving in Johannesburg.

Haines was invited to the release of the 2015 National Senior Certificate results with Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga.

During the incident, her family was robbed of their luggage.

Acting principal Susan Schnetler said: “I received a call from her teacher saying her family’s baggage had been stolen.

“They wanted to find out if we could courier a uniform up. Everyone rallied together.”

As all the invited pupils had to arrive in uniform, the family’s travel agent bought Haines shoes and socks, and her class teacher organised a school uniform from another pupil, which was couriered to her.
