A 10-year-old boy was wounded after he got a vicious hiding after allegedly stealing the cellphone of a delivery man on a motorbike.
An eyewitness says he overheard the boy and an older teen planning to rob the man.
But their plan backfired and the 10-year-old was caught and given a hiding before being handed over to cops, while his accomplice ran away.
The two young suspects spotted their target as he parked his motorbike on Ross Road in Wynberg on Tuesday around 4pm.
The resident who saw them says the younger boy distracted the man while the other grabbed his cellphone and raced away on foot.
“I heard them actually planning the robbery as they were walking down the road and, when they got to the man, they took the cellphone,” says the witness, who asked not to be named.
“The delivery man chased the older guy who had the cellphone with him and I went after the 10-year-old boy and I caught him.”
The resident says the angry delivery man moered the boy.
A picture of the frightened child with a long gash on his swollen forehead and a bandage around his head was sent to the Daily Voice.
“The man was really angry and sadly he still didn’t get his phone back because the boy’s partner was long gone,” says the resident.
“The police were called and they took the boy away from the scene.”
The section, at the corner of Ross and Ottery roads, is where the delivery men park as they wait for orders from the nearby busy restaurants.
CCTV camera footage shows the man still on the bike with his white helmet on when the younger boy comes to stand in front of the bike to speak to him.
The older boy stands on the left side and then grabs something from the man.
The delivery man drops the bike and runs after the skelm and the boy disappears.
