Violent protest continues in Coligny

Rustenburg – Three houses and three trucks were set alight in Coligny on Tuesday during a violent protest, North West police said. 

Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said several people were arrested in connection to looting of shops. A bottle store was looted on Monday when the protest start. 

The protest in the sleepy maize town was triggered by the death of a 12-year-old boy who fell off a moving a vehicle driven by a local farmer. He later died. 

Protesters have vowed to continue with the protest until the farmer was arrested. They claim the boy was accused of stealing sunflowers from the farm and was loaded onto the back of a bakkie, but fell from the vehicle. 

Mokgwabone said said an enquiry was opened for investigation following the death of the unidentified boy.
