An SBV cash-in-transit truck caught fire while driving on Halt Road yesterday morning.
An eyewitness says she heard an explosive sound which prompted her to go outside to look and saw smoke coming from the van at 10.45am.
Eleanor Classen tells the Daily Voice the police arrived on the scene quickly.
“When I got out to see what happened, the guards jumped out of the truck.
“I saw three armed security guards, two were in the front section of the van while the third was at the back.
“Unfortunately for us the money part of the vehicle didn’t explode, so no money rain for us. If it had I would have been there to catch it.”
Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says they received an emergency call at 10.31am of a truck alight at the corner of Halt Road and Eighth Avenue, Elsies River.
“The entire cab section was damaged as a result of the fire and the occupants of the vehicle had to escape via a metal hatch in the roof of the truck due to the electronic doors malfunctioning.
“The vehicle was towed away and no injuries were reported. The fire was extinguished at 11.20am.”
