A Bishop Lavis family is extremely grateful for the support of their community and a local car club who arranged donations from the public after their house burnt down on 30 August.
Brandon Cupido said his family lost everything when a fire ripped through their 7 Lenton Drive home during the early hours of last Monday.
But on Saturday, the family was blessed with donations from the Datsun Charity Maniacs and continued support from the community.
Brandon says: “Thankfully nobody was hurt, but it has been tough because the fire destroyed everything from clothes, appliances, furniture and even the roof.
“On Saturday, the guys from the car club came here in a lot of cars filled with groceries, clothes and candles and we are just so grateful for everything that they gave us.”
Brandon added the family even got a mini-braai that they are using to make food and also keep warm.
“My brother is part of the club, so he helped us get the donation but I know that the club always helps those in need and for that we cannot stop saying thank you.
“Also, the people in the community have also stepped forward throughout the week which has been very heart-warming.”
Noel, Brandon’s brother, said the club is always available to help those in need and the fact that he got to help his boet was an extra incentive.
The Lentegeur resident said: “We put a post out in our group and the response was just amazing.
“I lost count of how many blankets and bags of food there were and so much more people wanted to help.
“This is why we started this group and we are happy that so many people out there are willing to give.
“It is not a nice thing to lose everything in a fire like that, so to be able to come together and help those in need is something we will always look to do.”
In videos sent to the Daily Voice, a klomp cars can be seen driving up to the house in Bishop Lavis and dropping of various goodies while crowds gathered around in support of the good-hearted petrolkoppe.
