A Lavender Hill mother has been left heartbroken following the murder of her 16-year-old girl allegedly at the hands of her ex-boyfriend on New Year’s Day.
The 23-year-old man had brought the teen’s body, wrapped in a blanket, to her mom’s home, claiming a rival skollie had shot her.
Mom Melissa Fisher shared a video, which went viral, on Facebook to talk about the nightmare experience.
Speaking to the Daily Voice on Sunday, she says she had just returned from a night shift on Friday and could not find her daughter Ashanti at home.
“She looks after my other three kids when I work night shift. I came home in the morning and she was not there,” Melissa says.
She says although she was kwaad, she continued planning the family lunch for her children until a colleague came and asked her to step outside for a minute.
“When I went out, I first saw this guy who is my daughter’s ex-boyfriend and I asked if he beat my child again,” says Melissa.
“When I went closer, I saw a body covered in a blanket and I was told it's my Ashanti and that he had shot her.
“She broke up with him two weeks ago because she no longer wanted to date a gangster.
“I asked him why he shot my child, but he said an enemy did it. But an enemy would never leave him alive, the boy is a Flakka.”
A sobbing Melissa went live on Facebook after the incident and said: “I do not want any mother to experience what I experienced. I wanted to tell people how my child died and why parents should try and prevent their children from dating gangsters,” she says.
The suspect was arrested on Friday.
Melissa says people who saw what happened are afraid to speak up.
Her daughter was going to do her matric this year.
“No one wants to speak because they are scared of him, he has another girlfriend which he abuses too.”
She says her daughter was her best friend: “She was my everything, we spoke about her future and what she needs to do.
“I have been robbed of a star that would have shone the light of this family. I want that gangster to pay for killing my child.”
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut confirms the arrest, saying: “On 1 January at 9.45am, a 16-year-old female was shot and killed in Edward Road, Hillview. The suspect, a 23-year-old man, was arrested and is due to make a court appearance in Muizenberg (today).”
