Durban - A fire on Friday claimed the life of a woman and a dog in a home in Inyala Road, Mandini, north of KwaZulu-Natal.
Police and firefighters were still at the scene at the time of publication, trying to find the cause of the fire.
A passing security guard noticed smoke coming out of the house and notified the fire department, said Paul Herbst of IPSS medical rescue.
He said two men escaped the fire, one of them was in a critical condition.
Rescuers also found that the family dog had died.
Mandeni police were still at the scene compiling a report, said police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbhele.
