Cologne, Germany - Eleven passengers were taken to hospital Monday after their plane filled with exhaust fumes shortly after it landed in Germany.

The Boeing 737 aircraft, belonging to Germany's XL Airways, which was on its way from Hanover to Gaziantep in Turkey, had just made a scheduled stop in the west German city of Cologne-Bonn when passengers noticed smoke in the cabin.

A spokesman for the airline said the almost 200 passengers on board left the aircraft by the stairs as emergency services gathered at the airport. Officials are now investigating the source of the fumes.

The passengers wanting to continue their flight to Turkey were expected to resume their trip later Monday. - Sapa-dpa
