Carlisle - A South African man based in Australia has been denied bail over the murder of his wife, whose body was discovered in the family's backyard last week.

According to 9 news, Ahmed Dawood Seedat, 36, was charged with murder after the body of his wife, 32-year-old Fahima Yusuf, was discovered buried in a shallow grave at their home in Carlisle, Perth, last week Wednesday.

She was reportedly bludgeoned to death.

The mother of two had earlier been reported missing by her family before a police investigation led to the grim discovery, just metres away from where her children's toys were kept.

She was last seen alive on Friday, August 31, 2018.

Seedat is originally from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and is the son of Dawood Seedat, according to Ladysmith Gazette.

Yusuf meanwhile, was a British national.

Seedat appeared in the Perth Magistrate's Court where he was denied bail and remanded in custody.
