Details of the devastating bomb which claimed eight lives in the government district of Oslo last year were heard Tuesday at the trial of Anders Behring Breivik.

The 950-kilogram home-made bomb also injured more than 200 people, and caused widespread devastation when it exploded on July 22.

Security guards, police officers, and medical examiners who performed autopsies of the victims were summoned by the prosecution.

The 33-year-old Breivik is charged with terrorism and premeditated murder over the July 22 attacks.

In addition to the bomb, he is also charged with the later shooting spree where 69 people died at a camp organised by the Labour Party youth wing. Many of the victims were shot in the head.

At the start of the trial a week ago, Breivik admitted to the bombing and shootings that claimed 77 lives, but pleaded not guilty, saying he was defending Norway from multiculturalism. - Sapa-dpa
