Austin, Texas - A car ran through barricades and into a crowd at a music and film festival in Texas early on Thursday, killing two people and injuring 21, police told AFP.

The driver is in custody after the incident at the South By South-West (SXSW) festival in the state capital, Austin.

The barricades were temporary ones set up for the festival, and the crowd that was struck numbered in the hundreds, said Austin police spokesman Lieutenant Brian Moon.

Those hurt sustained injuries ranging from critical to minor, he said.
