New York -

A recently released convict arrested in the stabbing death of a six-year-old boy and the wounding of a seven-year-old girl in a New York City elevator has been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and other crimes.

Police announced the charges against Daniel St Hubert on Thursday.

Police say St Hubert has an attorney and hasn't made any incriminating statements.

The name of the attorney isn't available.

St Hubert is in custody and can't be reached for comment.

Police say St Hubert also is suspected of fatally stabbing an 18-year-old woman days before Sunday's attack on the children at a Brooklyn public housing building.

They say they believe he may have stabbed a homeless man in a Manhattan subway station. - Sapa-AP
