Havana - Revelations of a secret US program to set up a phone-based social network in Cuba are being trumpeted in the island's official media.

It is being presented as proof of allegations that Washington is waging a “cyber-war” to stir up unrest.

The findings of an Associated Press investigation have featured prominently on state TV newscasts and occupied a full page in the Communist Party newspaper Granma on Friday.

Documents obtained by the AP said the network dubbed ZunZuneo attracted some 40 000 cellphone users.

The AP revealed that the network sought to build an audience and then nudge it toward dissent.
