New Delhi -

The 23-year-old Indian gang rape victim being treated at a hospital in Singapore was in extremely critical condition and struggling to survive, doctors said on Friday.

The woman, raped and beaten in a moving bus in the Indian capital on December 16, was flown to Singapore and admitted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital Thursday.

“The patient continues to remain in an extremely critical condition,” Kelvin Loh, the chief executive officer of the hospital, said.

“The patient is currently struggling against the odds and fighting for her life,” Loh said.

He said investigations after the patient was admitted to the hospital showed that besides a prior cardiac arrest, the woman also had infections in her lungs and abdomen as well as significant brain injury.

A multidisciplinary team of specialists was working to stabilise her, the hospital said.
