Jet crashes in Bangladesh

Dhaka - A Bangladesh air force fighter jet crashed into a shanty home in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday, seriously injuring the pilot and seven people on the ground, officials said.

The pilot lost control of the F-7 fighter training plane at about 9am, close to the Dhaka suburb of Uttara, police officer Mohammed Akhtaruzzaman said.

The pilot suffered serious burns as did seven people in the shanty home, he said.

They were taken to hospital.

The pilot was on a routine training operation at the time of the accident, the cause of which was not immediately clear, Bangladesh armed forces spokesperson Nazrul Islam told reporters. - Sapa-AFP
