Kiev -
A 62-year-old man was killed and two wounded on Thursday in the western Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi when a grenade he was carrying blew up at the local university, prosecutors said.
“An analysis will determine whether the detonation was accidental or intentional,” a spokesperson for prosecutors told AFP.
Local media reports said the man had set the grenade off on purpose at the university to commit suicide. Two people - a professor and a student - were injured but did not need to be hospitalised.
The Segodnya daily said the man previously had arguments with the university's staff about rights to a plot of land.
But other reports said the man was a former border guard who had recently engaged in arguments with one of the university's professors. - Sapa-AFP
