Nepal: trapped SA hikers are safe

Kathmandu - The four South Africans who were stranded in a Nepal nature reserve have walked to safety and will be transported to Kathmandu.

According to the Honourary Consulate to South Africa in Nepal, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, he was informed that the four and about 25 other tourists walked to safety and will be brought to Kathmandu from Nuwakot where they will will meet up with the Gift of the Givers team.

The four, Irma Fourie, Heinz Hochrinner, Mike Sherman and Kate Ahrens, were meant to be airlifted out of the nature reserve before news broke that they and other tourists had evacuated Langtang.

They were trapped at the nature reserve when an avalanche occurred following the devastating earthquake on Saturday.
