Washington -

US President Barack Obama will hold a news conference at the White House on Wednesday, his first since being re-elected.

One of the topics is expected to be the fallout following the resignation of CIA director David Petraeus after admitting to an extramarital affair.

He is also expected to be asked about negotiations with Congress on resolving the so-called fiscal cliff - a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that will occur at the end of the year without a deficit-reduction deal.

The White House scheduled the news conference to begin at 1:30pm (18.30 GMT). - Sapa-dpa
