Port-au-Prince, Haiti - Haiti's government says that heavy rainfall in the north in recent days has killed 11 people and displaced thousands.
A detailed preliminary report from Haiti's Civil Protection Office says rains on Thursday and Friday in the northern city of Cap-Haitien has flooded more than 2 300 homes and that more than 3 400 people have been housed in emergency shelters.
The report released on Sunday said that all but one of the 11 dead were either children or teenagers. One person is reported missing.
The fatal floods come just two weeks after the outer bands of Hurricane Sandy passed the western part of the island nation. The storm left 54 people died and damaged 70 percent of the crops along the southern coast.
