Spanish police on Saturday said they had smashed a ring that gave drugs to children to groom them for prostitution.

Police in the Balearic city of Palma arrested “eight members of an organised gang who sought to introduce drugs to minors to get them hooked before offering them to adults as prostitutes and taking pictures of their activities to sell,” national police said in a statement.

Those arrested included two women and six men aged 20 to 65, police added.

The investigation, launched eight months ago following the death of a 16-year-old girl, allowed for the rescue a number of youths.

The youngsters “were little by little being forced into a situation from which there was no return,” police added. - Sapa-AFP
