A senior doctor accused of being a sex pest has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the medical watchdog.

Stephen Graham, 54, had faced a string of allegations involving touching or cupping the breasts of women patients as they were anaesthetised.

He was accused of pushing together the breasts of one sedated woman before turning to colleagues and saying: “It’s my Wonderbra technique.”

It was also alleged he removed part of a theatre gown to expose a naked patient and leered at another, the General Medical Council heard.

Dr Graham worked as a consultant anaesthetist at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough at the time of the alleged incidents, which date to 2006.

The panel heard that in 2009, concerns were raised by nurses about alleged inappropriate touching of female patients and a nurse. Two investigations were conducted by the trust, which concluded there was no case to answer.

Dr Graham, from Seamer, near Middlesbrough, returned to work in 2010, this time at Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, Yorkshire, before the case was brought before the GMC.

The GMC concluded Dr Graham, an expert in the spinal condition scoliosis, had not deliberately acted wrongly and his actions were appropriate in examining patients. In only one case he acted wrongly when he ran his finger up the spine of a nurse to demonstrate a medical point, but had meant no harm by it, it said.

Clearing him of misconduct, it said he was a “highly intelligent yet quirky individual” and an “excellent teacher”. - Daily Mail
