Cape Town - The woman accused of snatching three-day-old Zephany Nurse from her Groote Schuur hospital crib 18 years ago will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Zephany was found earlier this year at a local school, using a different name and surname.

She recently turned 18 and is finishing her matric year.

The woman she has known as her mother her whole life is now being charged with kidnapping, fraud and contravening the Children’s Act.

The case against the Lavender Hill woman is expected to be transferred to the Western Cape High Court for a pre-trial conference.

The story made international headlines after the girl’s younger biological sister ended up at the same high school as her and the two became friends.

When the younger sister told her parents about their striking resemblance, Morne and Celeste Nurse became suspicious, believing it could be their long-lost daughter.

DNA tests revealed that the teenager was in fact the child they had been searching for for 18 years.
