A pregnant woman who was shot in the chest during a cash-in-transit heist in Parow last week is out of hospital.
Aneesa Davids was seriously injured in Voortrekker Road, Goodwood, after the robbers opened fire on Tuesday morning August 1.
Parow police spokesman Captain Kevin Williams said two men with rifles had confronted security guards unloading cash boxes at the Net 1 pension pay-out point in Parow.
They ordered the guards and Net 1 staff to lie on the floor of the pay-out hall and took four of the ten cash boxes before fleeing.
Captain Williams said two of the four stolen boxes had been empty.
“The value of the money taken is estimated to be about R160000. The suspects fled the crime scene in a blue Toyota.”
The cash van driver had pursued the robbers leading to a shoot-out on the Jan van Riebeeck Bridge in Goodwood that saw five stray rounds hit a Datsun Go, narrowly missing the driver.
Ms Davids wasn’t so fortunate. Paramedics arriving on the scene of the shoot-out found the pregnant woman lying injured on the side of the road with a bullet wound to her chest.
“Paramedics treated her and provided her with advanced life support interventions,” said ER 24 spokesman, Russel Meiring.
Ms Davids was taken to Tygerberg Hospital and later moved to Mitchell’s Plain District Hospital.
Hospital spokeswoman Monique Johnstone said Ms Davids, who is 22 weeks pregnant, had been discharged on Saturday August 5.
The robbers are still at large, and Captain Williams said the police organised crime unit had taken over the investigation.
