Coronation Fund Managers has won the Raging Bull Award for the South African Management Company of the Year for the sixth time.
The management company of the year award was one of 10 Raging Bull Awards announced at a gala dinner in Johannesburg on Wednesday night. The event was hosted by Personal Finance, a publication of Independent Media, as well as ProfileData and PlexCrown Fund Ratings.
The Management Company of the Year award is based on the performance of all a company’s funds under management on a risk-adjusted basis for periods up to five years to the end of 2014.
Coronation claimed the award previously in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2013 and 2014, and it has been among the top three management companies 11 times in the past 19 years.
Coronation has consistently collected Raging Bull Awards and certificates for its funds. This year, nine of its funds received certificates.
The Raging Bull Awards were established in 1997 to honour the managers of funds that consistently earn good returns for South African retail investors.
PSG was runner-up for the Management Company of the Year Award, and Nedgroup Investments was in third position.
Nedgroup and PSG also each received a certificate for the performance of one of their funds.
The Offshore Management Company of the Year – the top-performing manager on a risk-adjusted basis among the offshore managers with funds approved by the Financial Services Board – was awarded to Oasis.
The other recipients of Raging Bull Awards were Harvard House, Old Mutual, 27four, ClucasGray, Sasfin, Contrarius and Lloyds.
Apart from the 10 Raging Bull Awards, 39 certificates were awarded to funds that achieved outstanding returns over either three or five years to the end of December 2014.
