While civic organisations and political parties have gathered outside the Port Elizabeth High Court to show support for Cheryl Zondi, people on social media continue to rally behind her.

The 22-year-old is under cross-examination in the human trafficking trial involving Nigerian pastor Timothy Omotoso.

She claimed  she was sexually assaulted when she was only 14 years old by Omotoso while a member of his Jesus Dominion International church.

South Africans have for the past three days praised Zondi for her bravery and strength for not buckling under pressure during intense cross examination at the trial.

Local celebrities such as radio and TV personality Lerato Kganyago and actress Florence Masebe have also showed their support.

Masebe tweeted: "All I can do is pray you are surrounded by the necessary support and love. I cannot begin to imagine what you are feeling inside.

"Brave and strong as you seem, I hope that those close by are constantly present to hold you through all this."

The 58 year old charismatic televangelist faces a string of charges including rape, and the alleged trafficking of more than 30 girls and women who were from various branches of his church.

His two alleged henchwomen, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho are accused of recruiting girls from all over the country for purposes of sexual exploitation.
