Pretoria - It is not an ordinary day of shopping for city dwellers as they are entertained with sweet melodies, bands and all things musical by South African Police Service members under the umbrella of Police Music and Culture Association at Central Park in Menlyn Shopping Centre on Wednesday.

Officers occupying the centre said the performances were their way of communicating with the public and to get community members to feel free to approach them in order to be able to work together to fight crime.

Constable Victor Masango from the Northern Cape band said music was a tool everyone could easily associate with hence they used it (music) to communicate with the public on their crime awareness campaign.

"The performance is also a sneak peek to what could be expected at the 25th Annual Police Music and Cultural Association unity festival which will start from tomorrow and run until Saturday at the Heartfelt Music Arena," he said.

The National Unity Festival seeks to showcase the SAPS’ rich diversity in song with members from all nine province’s.

The competition will have categories in choral music, ballroom dancing, traditional dancing, cookery displays and cultural exhibitions.
