REACH out to children while they are free from prejudice and discrimination to mould them into champions for change is what Mandela hoped for.
These were the words that inspired former Judge-President of the Gauteng High Court, Pretoria and Tax Ombudman, Judge Bernard Ngoepe, to spend his 67 Minutes for Mandela Day with children at the Tshwane Child Welfare centre in Atteridgeville.
Ngoepe said he wanted to encourage the youngsters from the community to use the opportunities available to them to better their lives and that of their own communities.
"We decided to come to spend our time with children because this is the best stage to instill values in them. Mandela loved children as he knew they were our future," he said.
A hot meal, pads, stationery, toiletries, toys and groceries were among some of the gifts that the ombud and his staff members donated to the centre.
