Pretoria -  Angry Mamelodi residents barricaded Solomon Mahlangu Drive on Monday morning, demanding improved service delivery.

Traffic was disrupted as residents blocked the road with stones, bricks and burning tyres.

The residents had been moved from Stoffel Park and Extension 11 informal settlement to Kopanong informal settlement in 2015.

They said they were promised permanent stands with water and electricity, but none of this had come to fruition.

They are calling on MMC of Housing Mandla Nkomo who addressed the protesters earlier this year when they protested for the same issues, to come and address them again.

"We will make Mamelodi disruptive if the MMC doesn't come and address us," said one of the community leaders.

Meanwhile protest action has disrupted train services between Pienaarspoort and Pretoria.

Spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng said protesters were burning tyres on the railway tracks‚ damaging infrastructure.

"All trains running on this corridor transporting thousands of commuters are turning around at Eestefabrieke for safety reasons," she said.
