Hibiscus Retirement Villages welcomes you to the latest addition in its portfolio, Widenham Retirement Village, a picturesque development 40km south of Durban, between the quaint village of Widenham and eMkhomazi .

Widenham Retirement Villagebrings to four the number of developments under Hibiscus Retirement Villages, founded in October 1962 and which has been providing residential homes to residents since July 1967 – the year Margate Retirement Village was unveiled. Umdoni Retirement Village was the second, in 2000, and was followed, in 1995, by Ramsgate Retirement Village.

Like its predecessors, Widenham Retirement Village raises the bar in offering retirees a distinctive product that ensures one’s twilight years are spent in comfort and leisure. For instance, Phase 4 has north-facing units with sea views over the village of Widenham, and there are 84 units available.

Widenham Retirement Village has proved popular since inception in October 2018. To date, 170 units have been occupied and 220 sold. Two units from Phase 2 and seven units from Phase 3 remain. The developers are constructing eight units a month.

The first units of Phase 4 will be ready for occupation in May next year. On sale in this phase are two-bedroom units from R1 845 000 and three-bedroom units starting from R2 140 000. All units are sold on the basis of life right, meaning the society owns the units.

There are no transfer costs, no legal costs and no commissions – the price you see is the price you pay. The same applies to levies, which will cover your rates and taxes as well as a garden service, security, outpatients department, water and maintenance. Similarly, all internal and external maintenance is the Society’s responsibility.

The insurance of the unit is also the Society’s responsibility as all one will be required to insure are one’s personal belongings. Widenham, when complete, will have 600 one-, two-, and three-bedroom cottages, a medical/ outpatients centre, a frail-care facility, bowling greens, tennis courts, swimming pool, library, snooker room, bridge and card room, gym, clubhouse, bar, dining room, entertainment hall and walks through the beautiful wetlands.

In proximity is an 18-hole golf course in the town of eMkhomazi. Selborne and Umdoni Park golf clubs are a short drive away. Galleria Shopping Centre is 20km up the road. Adjacent to this shopping centre is Kingsway Netcare Hospital.

Ten kilometres to the south is Scottburgh. The other Hibiscus Retirement Villages are also well-appointed – Umdoni has 372 cottages, Ramsgate, 61, while Margate has 443 cottages and flats.

Between them, they have more than 1 200 residents, 50 frail-care beds, bowling greens, tennis courts, swimming pools, libraries, entertainment halls and hobby clubs. Margate and Umdoni Retirement Village each have a frail-care centre. Contact Caylin at 066 306 0669 or Jenette at 066 306 0612 to book an appointment.
