Gauteng Schools’ Athletics chairperson Dawid Pieterse said: “The 15 districts commenced their district and cluster leagues earlier in the year and those you see here are the district winners.
"Today, learners aged from 10 to 19 will participate for the top honours and the right to represent the province. Athletes are from mainstream and special needs schools.
"Cross-country provides the perfect opportunity for learner participation because there are no real costs besides transport.
"It is therefore encouraging to see so many learners who are waiting to test their mettle against the best.
"I want to congratulate them on reaching this level. They are all winners today,” he said.
