Johannesburg - This week we feature well-known South African radio personality, club DJ, music producer, and TV presenter DJ Sabby.
Twice nominated for radio awards, Sabby made a name for himself at popular radio station YFM , where he hosted a Drive Time show for over a decade.
Now currently at Metro FM, Sabby, whose real name is Sabelo Mtshali, hosts the Metro FM Top40 Chart Show.
In late 2019, DJ Sabby also joined the BBC’s radio show called #ThisIsAfrica, hosted by DJ Edu, as a correspondent profiling ascending African acts within the music space.
His on-screen charisma has also found him hosting several TV shows including SABC 1’s Bonisanani, Africa Magic Plus’s Unplugged, ETV’s #TheCulture, and Soweto TV’s Babize Bonke among many others.
As a music producer , Sabby has worked with some of Africa’s best artists, including SJAVA, Rouge, Kid X and Nelisiwe on a song to promote road safety with the Department of Community Safety.
He has also just released his new album Next Up Volume 1.
You can travel to any part of the world to watch any DJ live. Who do you choose to watch?
I'd love to experience a Tiesto set. I think he has been bossing it for so many years and built such a solid name for himself. Given the chance to engage in conversation with him would be a bonus.
What is the one thing most people don't know about you?
I’m quite a shy guy, but I force myself to become more extroverted in certain scenarios.
The best party spot in South Africa is … ?
I'd have to say Konka is the hit spot right now.
You're on death row. You are allowed one last meal and one last drink. What do you choose to have ?
My wife makes the best beef stew and rice. Pair that with vodka and lemonade and God can call my name.
What album do you have playing in your car right now?
My just-released album, Next Up Volume 1. I love this album so much because I get to showcase some up-and-coming talent I am so passionate about. Check it out on streaming platforms today!

I honestly don't remember any date I've had in the past. True story.
