Johannesburg - This week, we feature South African radio and TV personality Frankie Du Toit. He co-host the popular 947 Breakfast Club on 947 with Anele Mdoda.

Du Toit is also an English and Afrikaans voice-over artist. He has voiced numerous national campaigns for a variety of brands and industries.

The best and worst thing about working with Anele Mdoda?

It's a huge amount of fun working with Anele. She's an absolute professional, and broadcasting alongside her means a ton of laughs.

Anele is an incredible storyteller and she'll leave you in stitches, both on and off-air. We've known each other for 19 years, after starting together at Tuks FM, so it's very much full circle for both of us to be hosting Anele and The Club on 947 every morning.

The one thing most people don't know about you?

I play guitar and drums and I used to be in a band touring alongside Prime Circle, Parlotones, Crash Car Burn, and Fokofpolisiekar for many years. Rock ’n’ Roll is in my blood and I've made great friends across the music industry. I am also a TV producer and our company, Rose and Oaks Media, have a few big projects coming up in the next few months that we're sure are going to bring pure viewer bliss.

Your best memory on radio?

There are too many to recall in this short space, but radio has the ability to change lives and that's what's kept me on-air for almost two decades. I vividly remember the morning we raised R1.2 million to help a teenager fund her kidney transplant, ultimately saving her life. Last year during December, we helped empower a girl with disabilities to attend a special school that would better be suited to her needs.

You have 10 minutes to interview Julius Malema live on radio. What is the first thing you ask him?

I'd like the commander and chief to share his complete body transformation guide with the rest of us, because that's the one secret we all want to know.

The song that gets you going in the morning?

The Killers by Mr Brightside

Are you a morning person?

As soon as I get the first cup of coffee in I’m raring to go.

Your ultimate three-course breakfast?

First course is yoghurt and fruit, then a full English breakfast with extra pork sausage and bacon. And then my sweet tooth requires me to go for a jam pastry.

Take us back to the best birthday celebration you've had? How are you going to celebrate your 40th?

I’ve never been big on birthday huge parties but this year we’re having a big one. Lockdown got me into playing tennis, so we’re having a big tennis party at our club with a mini tournament for fun. “The Lonehill Open” is set to dwarf the US open, just with fewer ATP players and no Lloyd Harris.

Your favourite restaurant in Johannesburg? What do you order?

My wife is obsessed with Asian cuisine and flavours, so that’s our go-to for most takeways as well. The Momo restaurants are a must.

Ever got into an argument with Anele? Who won?

Hahaha! We prefer to call them vigorous debates. We have similar world views and share a deep passion for this country and its people. Anele is always open to your opinion and I’m good at understanding both sides of a viewpoint. But if you’re on the wrong side, Anele won’t back down.
