Johannesburg - This week, we feature South African teen music sensation Mila Smith.

The Cape Town-born singer started her first band, Skyscrapers, when she was 10-years-old, who went on to open for Freshlyground only a few months after recording their first EP.

After Skyscrapers disbanded in 2018, Mila was immediately scooped up by Platoon records and, a few years later, released her debut pop-rooted single, Liars and Fakes.

She recently released a powerful new ballad titled, Reassemble Myself. Following in the success of her debut single, Liars & Fakes, this new single uses the opportunity to display Mila’s impressive vocal abilities and cements her as a force to be reckoned with worldwide.

Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or Tik Tok. Which is your favourite?

Instagram and TikTok are my favourites. Instagram, because it was the first social media app I ever used, and have been using it forever. I got on Tiktok earlier this year, and I can see why everyone loves it. TikTokers are hilarious! It can also be a very informative platform, which I enjoy too!

You are able to collaborate with any SA musician on a song. Who do you choose and why?

I’d choose the one and only, Shekinah! I love her music, and I feel we’d work really well together. I would also love to collaborate with EMERGER. EMERGER is an alt-pop duo. I love how their songs are filled with synth-driven melodies and cinematic progressions.

Growing up, which musician did you most look up to?

I looked up to Madonna and Adele (and I’m still obsessed with Adele).

Your current favourite Netflix series are?

Now THIS is a difficult question. My mom and I both binged Squid game, which is definitely a new favourite. I also love: How to Get Away with Murder, Call My Agent, Stranger Things, Dead To Me and shows that aren’t on Netflix: Big Little Lies, Killing Eve, The Morning Show (and the list continues!).

The one thing that most people don't know about Mila Smith is?

I am an only child. I’m passionate about social justice, and I LOVE to read (and eat food).

If you were the President of SA for a day, what would be your first priority?

My first priority would be buckling down on the femicide in our country by introducing official policies that protect victims of Gender-Based Violence instead of benefiting the perpetrators.

If there is one thing that the lockdown has taught you, its.....?

I love being at home!

Your favourite restaurant to visit in SA is? And what do you order?

My absolute favourite restaurant is Bao Down in Green Point. My favourite order is as follows (and trust me, I eat it all): Korean fried chicken bao, beef tataki, egg fried rice, yellowtail sashimi and an icy cola tonic and lemonade.

Your favourite subject in school is...? And why?

My favourite subjects are English and History. History because it is just so interesting to see how the past has a ripple effect on the present. English because I find studying literature and poetry fascinating. I love creative writing too!

Have you ever spent time in detention? And if so , what was the reason?

N E V E R! I am a goody-two-shoes through and through.
