Johannesburg - It will be some time before kwaito star Sipho "Brickz" Ndlovu knows just how many years he will be spending behind bars for raping his wife's teenage niece.

This was after sentencing procedures that were supposed to take place on Thursday morning at the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court were postponed.

This is because Ndlovu was represented by Dumisani Mabunda throughout the trial but then dumped him after he was convicted two weeks ago.

His new lawyer, Peter Du Plessis, told the court that he had encountered delays in obtaining transcripts and that had hampered their preparedness.

He also said that they had requested that the documents be transcribed as he would like to study them before proceeding with the matter. Du Plessis also pointed out that he appointed a social worker two days ago. However, limited visiting hours had thwarted the social worker's plans to compile a pre-sentencing report.

Throughout his trial, Brickz was out on a R50 000 bail but that was revoked after he was convicted. However, on Wednesday Du Plessis told the court that they intend on applying for bail.

Despite granting the request for a postponement, Magistrate John Baloyi was not happy about the delay.

"We need to finish this case. The matter has been dragging on for almost four years," he said.

Ndlovu was found guilty of raping his wife's niece, who was 17 years old at the time at his Ruimsug home in 2013. His family was in court but refused to speak to the media.

He will be back in court on August 1.
