When asked about the key to his success in the music industry, Ross Jack jokingly says that there could be something special in Benoni’s water.
Having produced stars like Charlize Theron, Benoni has earned the reputation of producing some of South Africa’s biggest talent.
And it’s no different for Jack. He’s been dominating airwaves for the last six months and his singles have reached the top of the charts on a number of radio stations.
The musician’s single, TV’s in the Swimming Pool, reached number one on the 5FM Top 40 chart, while his song Home Safe has made it to the top three on a number of music charts.
Now his newly released single Babylon has taken the airwaves by storm.
“I still think Charlize Theron and the Princess of Monaco, Charlene Wittstock, have a bit on me, but it does make me optimistic that two people from Benoni have become world famous.”
Jack released his debut album Notes from the Wild six months ago, and has become increasingly popular with music lovers.
He attributed his success in the industry to his “cutting edge and fresh sound”.
“I honestly put it down to the music,” he said. “I really also am grateful for all the support given to us from the air.”
Though Jack’s debut album has not gone gold yet, he was optimistic.
Jack said the South African music industry had treated him very well so far. “I would love to work with Yvonne Chaka Chaka, that would be an honour.”
He is also hoping to come out with another album.
Jack worked with world renowned award-winning producer Pete “Boxsta” Martin on his album.
He said Martin had helped him “elevate his music career”.
His primary focus now is to do more live performances.
“I’m trying to just take over the live performance space by hitting as many festivals as I possibly can and just to keep pushing.”
