There is a palpable excitement among the school sport sector as the talent of our young female players is being recognised. Six players from schools across the province have been called up for the forthcoming Bantwana Under 17 Women’s National Team preparation camp.

These players have come through the school sport system and were all part of the Team Gauteng that participated in the National School Sport Championships in KwaZulu-Natal in 2017. They currently ply their trade with clubs in the Safa League.

The camp takes place from March 29 to - April 9 and is preparation for the 2018 Fifa World Cup. Director of School Sport in the Gauteng Department of Education, Cedric Ranchor, was elated with the news.

“This is proof that hard work, commitment and passion will be rewarded. As the GDE and the Gauteng Department of Sport, we want to congratulate these talented young women on reaching this stage. We wish them well and hope to see them on the international stage in the future.

"We want them to be an example of the opportunities out there for our youth and school sport is the foundation that develops and builds future stars. Congratulations, and all of the very best. We have no doubt that you will reach greater heights.”
