Honk Kong - Doctors in Hong Kong are replacing the traditional clipboard with the iPad 2 in what is believed to be a first for Asian hospitals, a news report said on Wednesday.
The Apple tablet is being introduced for doctors and clinicians at the city's Union Hospital in Shatin, following a successful trial, according to the Hong Kong Standard newspaper.
It will put up-to-the-minute information about patients alongside archived medical records, images, video and full medication histories at the fingertips of doctors.
Dr Anthony Lee Kai-yiu, chief hospital manager and medical director, said 50 tablet computers would be in use with special security software installed to ensure patient confidentiality.
“This tailor-made solution has marked a milestone in our patient- centric health-care development,” he said. - Sapa-dpa
