BERLIN – Formula One team McLaren said Thursday that all staff members have returned to Britain after spending almost a fortnight in quarantine in Australia after one of them contracted the novel coronavirus.

Sixteen McLaren staff were isolated after the positive test in Melbourne which prompted the team to withdraw from the then postponed season-opener. Seven others of the 16 also underwent tests which returned negative last week.

"We are pleased to confirm that as of yesterday evening, all team personnel who were in self-isolation in Melbourne, as well as management who had stayed with them, have now safely returned home," McLaren tweeted.

"Thanks once again on behalf of the team for all the support and well wishes."

By now the first eight season races have fallen victim to the pandemic, with a first grand prix now eyed for June 14 in Canada.
