Rome – World champion Dai Greene has pulled out of Thursday night's Diamond League meeting here after falling ill.

The 400m hurdles champion announced the news on the Twitter social networking site.

“So disappointed to say this but I'm no longer racing tonight. Woke up not well. Been in bed all day as feel so bad. Gutted,” he wrote.

“My apologies to the meet organisers and people expecting to see me race. Such a horrible decision to make but have to be sensible.

“Hoping to recover quick to get back to training for the Olympics. Just want to be home.”

Greene was expected to race against American Bershawn Jackson, with whom he has recently been involved in a media spat.

Greene allegedly claimed the Americans were over-rated, although he says his comment was taken out of context, while Jackson mocked Greene's winning time at last year's World Championships in Daegu. – Sapa-AFP
