BERLIN - Three more Diamond League meetings have been postponed during the coronavirus crisis to further delay the start of the elite-level athletics series.

Meetings in Stockholm (May 24) Naples/Rome (May 28) and Rabat (May 31) have been postponed, organizers said Friday, joining previous events in Qatar and China in being removed from the calendar.

"The dynamic global spread of the Covid-19 disease, the travel restrictions expected to be in force for some time and above all concerns over athlete safety have made it impossible to stage the competitions as planned," the Diamond League said in a statement.

Local organisers, the Diamond League and governing body World Athletics, however, "remain committed to delivering a structured extensive season in 2020," with a revamped calendar announced when possible.

The season-opening Diamond League could now be in Eugene, Oregon, on June 7 depending on how the coronavirus crisis develops.
