Athletics South Africa on Tuesday announced that it will send a men's team of five athletes to compete in the first IAAF World 20km Road Running Championships in Debrecen, Hungary, on October 8 while a team of four women will represent South Africa at the Southern Region Half Marathon Championships on Mozambique on September 23.

The men's team will be led by Norman Dlomo who finished in a creditable 10th place at 2005's World Half Marathon Championships in Edmonton, Canada.

Dlomo will be joined by a formidable group of George Mofokeng, Enos Matelane, Mphuthumi Ngedle and Lusapho April and they will go all out to improve on last year's seventh placing in the team competition.

Poppy Mlambo will lead South Africa's challenge in the Southern Region Half Marathon Championships. Also included in the team are Ronel Thomas, Irvette van Blerk and Zinhle Xiniwe.

At last year's Championships in Seychelles the South Africa women's team brought home a gold and silver medal. - Sapa
