CAPE TOWN – Expect a cricket bonanza when Cape Town Blitz stride out at Newlands, says Western Province cricket chief Nabeal Dien.

Cricket South Africa unveiled the names and logos of the six teams competing in the inaugural Mzansi Super League (MSL) T20 tournament at their offices yesterday.

The MSL will run from 16 November-16 December with the fixtures and tickets prices set to be announced shortly.

It is understood that Newlands is the front-runner to host the opening game, and should this be the case, cricket fans in Cape Town could be in for an entirely new spectator experience, according to Dien.

“It is all system go,” Dien said. “We will start on an intensive marketing campaign shortly.

“There are visible constraints, such as the time frame, but we will try our very best to stage a successful tournament and provide the spectator with a unique experience.

“We had a meeting with the City this morning and its our intention to create a Fan Zone from the Main Road through to the stadium. We are hoping that we can close off the bridge to get fans to feel the gees as they make their way towards the stadium. We will also be trying to sell packages for all five matches to make it affordable to spectators.”

It is expected that Cape Town Blitz will maintain the coaching staff of the Cape Cobras, namely head coach Ashwell Prince and his assistant Faiek Davids.

This is in contrast to the now-defunct Cape Town Knight Riders, who called on former Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis’ services, for last year’s cancelled T20 Global League.

Proteas star JP Duminy is, though, once again a “marquee player” and is expected to lead Cape Town Blitz, just like he would have last season’s Knight Riders. The remaining Proteas marquee players are Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir.

Meanwhile, England captain Eoin Morgan was among the international marquee players along with teammates Jason Roy and Dawid Malan, while West Indies duo Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo were included along with Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
