Capetonians, get ready to see AB de Villiers in the flesh again!

That comes after Cricket South Africa announced on Thursday that the opening game of the Mzansi Super League (MSL) will be played at Newlands on Friday, November 16, with the Cape Town Blitz taking on the Tshwane Spartans (7pm start).

Former Proteas captain De Villiers is the South African marquee player for the Spartans, with Quinton de Kock having replaced the injured JP Duminy in that role for the Blitz.

The MSL released the full fixture list, with the top team at the end of the league phase going straight through to the final at home, while second and third will play an eliminator.

On the second day, Saturday November 17, the Jozi Stars will face the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at the Wanderers (7pm), and there are two games on Sunday, November 18 – Durban Heat against Cape Town Blitz at Kingsmead (11.30am) and Paarl Rocks taking on the Tshwane Spartans at Boland Park (3.30pm).

All matches will be broadcast live on SABC3 and Radio 2000.

“This is certainly an exciting fixture at one of the world’s iconic venues to kick start our league,” Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive Thabang Moroe said about the Newlands opener.

“We have as far as possible concentrated fixtures on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, which have proved to be the most popular days with our fans in the past.

“This has been long time in the making. The best in the world all gathered in one place and that place is South Africa for the #MSLT20. It is something we as players are relishing after waiting a long time for it.” - @ABdeVilliers17 pic.twitter.com/9VmSPecxWQ

“We are also confident that the league will attract new fans as well, and provide ideal entertainment value for families in a secure and convivial environment.

“The entertainment package will go way beyond cricket. Where there are two fixtures on the same day, these will be played at staggered times so that fans will be able to get full value from SABC’s live coverage of all the matches.”
