East London - Persistent rain brought a premature end to the domestic T20 cricket match between the Warriors and the Titans at Buffalo Park in East London, as the match was called off on Friday.

The Warriors had reached 59 for nine after 11.4 overs in a game reduced to 12 overs per innings.

Steady rain just before the official scheduled start of the game at 6pm, and again with two balls left in the Warriors innings, ended any hope of further play and the match was called off.

The Titans won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the Warriors to bat first in bad weather conditions.

Other than the experienced Ashwell Prince, who scored 20, the Warriors’ innings was a procession of batsmen scurrying to the pitch to return to the dugout within a few minutes.

Morne Morkel, with 3/15 and the Pakistan international spinner, Saeed Ajmal, 3/12, were the pick of the Titans’ bowling, and only three fours were hit during the entire innings, with some excellent fielding by the motivated Titans.

Heino Kuhn shone in the outfield with three catches, one of them a magnificent effort, diving and scooping the ball off the grass.

The called-off match leaves the Warriors on 16 points after eight matches, unable to register a win since their second game against the Knights on January 8.

Two ties last week have kept the Eastern Cape franchise in with a slight chance of making the playoffs. - Sapa
