He was set to coach Chris Gayle in the T20 Afghanistan Premier League, but now Herschelle Gibbs has suddenly been replaced as the head coach of Balkh Legends.

The former Proteas master blaster took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that he won’t be involved in the tournament, which takes place in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates from Friday.

“Just a heads up on the @APLT20official, the owner of the team I was meant to coach withdrew from the league so I have been replaced by someone else...hope it goes well nonetheless,” Gibbs stated.

The 44-year-old ex-opener has been replaced by an Australian, Simon Helmot, as the Balkh Legends head coach.

Helmot, 46, has previously been in charge of the Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s Big Bash League, and was also an assistant coach of IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad this year.
