Johannesburg – Uncapped seam bowler Kyle Abbott has replaced Morne Morkel in the Proteas squad for the third and final Test against Pakistan starting in Centurion on Friday.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Tuesday that Rory Kleinveldt would take Morkel's place in the starting line-up, with Abbott providing cover if necessary.

Morkel limped off the field on the third day of the second Test in Cape Town with a hamstring injury.

“We did consider Lonwabo Tsotsobe but unfortunately he is still recovering from an ankle injury and will only be fit in time for the limited overs segment of the tour,” said CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson.

“Kyle has done extremely well in the Sunfoil Series this season.”

Abbott, who plays for the Dolphins, finished the domestic first-class competition as the leading wicket-taker (49) and with the second best average (15.36).

“He swings the ball nicely and is another player who has earned a call-up through outstanding form at franchise level,” Hudson said.

South Africa hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, having cemented their place at the top of the ICC Test rankings.
