JOHANNESBURG – Cricket South Africa has congratulated the Proteas on winning their five-match ODI Series against Sri Lanka after clinching their third straight victory by an impressive margin of 78 runs in Pallekele on Sunday.

“Congratulations to captain Faf du Plessis, head coach Ottis Gibson and all the players and support staff,” commented CSA Chief Executive Thabang Moroe.

“This performance is one that augurs extremely well for our chances at next year’s ICC World Cup and shows that our preparation and planning is right on target. The margins of victory have been extremely convincing and have been the result of good all-round performances with both bat and ball.

“We have an excellent mix of youth and experience in the squad and the fact that our bowling attack has little and in some cases, no experience of playing on the sub-continent and have still dominated the Sri Lankan batting throughout the series has been most impressive.

“A special word of congratulations is due to Reeza Hendricks who today became the third South African after Colin Ingram and Temba Bavuma to score a century on ODI debut. It is encouraging to see a newcomer grabbing the opportunity offered.

“It is also pleasing to see the way our Proteas have bounced back after their disappointing form in the Test series,” concluded Moroe.
