BLOEMFONTEIN – South Africa won a rain-affected T20 International at the Mangaung Oval by 23 runs to clinch the series 3-0 on Sunday, and make it eight wins from eight games overall against Bangladesh.
All-rounder Suné Luus promised the hosts would not take their foot off the gas after securing the series on Saturday, and the Proteas delivered after a rain delay, restricting Bangladesh to 41/6 in reply to their 64/4.
After the ground staff mopped up the outfield in Bloemfontein, the match was reduced to nine overs.
The first three overs acted as a Powerplay, with four bowlers allowed to bowl two overs each.
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first and started well, with Salma Khatun (2/18) picking up the wickets of opener Lizelle Lee and number three Luus, who top-scored with 71 from 57 balls in the previous game.
Tazmin Brits weighed in with 29 from 22 balls, with three boundaries, but she and captain Dané van Niekerk (12) fell in the same over to slow the scoring.
Chloe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp could only score eight runs from the final eight balls of the shortened innings to post 64/4.
Needing to score at seven runs per over, Bangladesh started tentatively as Shabnim Ismail opened up with a maiden.
Murshida Khatun then edged Kapp behind to leave the Tigers firmly on the back foot at 5/1 after two overs.
Fargana Hoque and Rumana Ahmed both fell for single-figure scores and the visitors never recovered.
Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the Proteas bowlers, returning figures of 3/10 from her two overs, while Kapp took 2/8 as Bangladesh finished 24 runs short of their target.
Having won all five ODIs and all three T20Is, South Africa will now look ahead to their tour of England – who beat them twice at the 2017 ICC World Cup.
