South Africa qualified top of Group B at the T20 World Cup on Tuesday after their final match against the West Indies, set to be played at the Sydney Showgrounds, was rained out.

That outcome meant the two teams each gained one point, putting South Africa on seven, moving them ahead of England and into top spot in the pool. As a result they will face hosts and defending champions Australia in the semi-final, scheduled to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.

India, who won all their matches to top Group A, will face England in the other semi.

However the weather forecast for Sydney on Thursday is looking poor as well, with a 90% chance of rain expected. With no reserve days set aside for the semis, should both matches be rained out, then India and South Africa, as group winners would qualify to meet in the final, that will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. A reserve day has been set aside for the final. Organisers stated earlier this week that more than 50000 tickets have already been sold for the final.
